International Service, Ireland has been
in operation since September 2002 when our new company was registered in
Dublin. This company limited by guarantee was accepted by the Revenue
Commissioners for charitable status.
International Service has had links with APSO,
Ireland Aid and now Development Cooperation Ireland going back many
years. We have recruited many Irish development workers into our
overseas programme over the years and have many links with Irish NGOs
and voluntary sector bodies.
Since the establishment of our new Company we
have maintained good links with DCI, recruited a number of new Trustees
based in Ireland, most of whom are former IS development workers and
organised the visit of Modibo Sangho from a partner NGO Mali to talk
about working with young people there.
We also organised a networking meeting for
NGOs working in Palestine to share information and common concerns about
EU and Irish policy on the region.
At our
AGM last March the Board agreed to prioritise the following areas of
work:
-
Working with staff in DCI to secure funding for our programmes
-
Building our profile within Ireland v Recruiting Irish development
workers to our programmes
-
Explore the possibility of joint advocacy work on areas of common
interest
-
Network with other volunteer-sending NGOs who have established offices
in Ireland
-
Organise an occasional visit from an overseas partner with a public
meeting and visits to funders etc.
