International Service joins new platform urging world leaders to ‘Put People First’
International Service has joined a rapidly-growing platform of development agencies, environmental agencies, faith groups, diaspora organisations and trade unions telling world leaders attending the G20 summit in April that sustainable, just and fair policies are the only way to lead the world out of recession.
The platform - which includes Oxfam, Save the Children, UNISON and the Fairtrade Foundation - is united under the banner
Put People First: Jobs, Justice, Climate and is calling on everyone to join a major demonstration in London on Saturday 28 March.
Thousands of people will be marching through London to demand:
- Decent jobs and public services for all
- An end to global poverty and inequality
- The building of a green economy
All members of the
Put People First platform want governments and leaders to move towards transparent and accountable financial systems and make bold, positive decisions which will see an end to the hurt experienced by the world's poor, and by the environment.
International Service’s Chief Executive, Matthew Snell, said:
“this global campaign sends a strong message to world leaders that ‘business as usual’ is no longer the way forward. These are difficult times for everyone, but we cannot miss this chance to set the world’s economy and systems on a new, more just and fairer road.”
