21st and 22nd August 2009
João Pessoa, Brazil
Call for papers is now open for the seminar AIDS and Disability: Deepening Relations (organized by International Service, Amankay Insitute of Research, Federal University of Paraiba and NGO Apôitchá in partnership with local organisations).
The seminar is supported by the Brazilian Ministry of Health and Irish Aid and will take place on 21 and 22 August 2009 in Estação Ciência (Cabo Branco) in João Pessoa, PB. The event has national coverage, with an emphasis on the northeastern region.
The objectives of the event are to:
- Give visibility to the theme of disability and the interface with HIV/AIDS, which is still little known and discussed in the northeast
- Offer assistance and opportunities for reflection about people with different types of disability with regards their sexuality and how to respond to their needs with dignity, autonomy and security
- To stimulate the continuation of the debate by proposing the formation of themed working groups
- Identify, disseminate and strengthen regional actors and initiatives so that they can maintain contact and form networks of information and activities on this theme.
We expect 300 participants of the event, coming from the northeast, other states and representatives from other countries.
