Call for Yorkshire & Humber nominations as our awards come to York

** deadline for nominations extended until
    5pm Thursday 21st October**

Do you know...

Someone who makes a huge difference to the lives of those     around them?

Someone who empowers others through their actions and     activities?

Someone who challenges the inequalities they see?

Is there a star in your community who needs a boost and some well-deserved recognition for their efforts in helping build
a more equal society?

If so, then help us to tell the world and celebrate their unique contribution by nominating them for one of our ‘Yorkshire & Humber Local Hero Awards.’

They will stand alongside others from across the world at this year’s International Service Human Rights Awards ceremony.

For the first time in their eight year history, the International Service Human Rights Awards will be presented in the City of York at an uplifting ceremony in York Minster on Tuesday 7th December.

These awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of people around the world who are working to promote human rights, and change the things that cause people to be excluded, disempowered or impoverished.

However, the team at International Service also knows that important work happens on our own doorstep every day, and we want to find it.

We are seeking nominations for work in four areas:

  • Work that defends and promotes children's rights

activities that support and protect children by ensuring they are cared for and listened to, and have proper access to healthcare, education, training, positive recreation, or rehabilitation.

  • Work that defends and promotes women's rights

activities that empower women, achieve equal opportunities for women (including healthcare, education and employment), or that protect or promote women’s rights.

  • Work that defends and promotes disabled people's rights

activities that empower adults or children with physical or mental disabilities, achieve equal opportunities for disabled people (including healthcare, education, employment, legislation and social inclusion), and that protect or promote disabled people’s rights.

  • Work that defends and promotes our right to sexual and reproductive healthcare

activities that protect or promote the right to a high standard of sexual health including access to healthcare services, information and education about sex and sexuality, and freedom of choice for everyone regardless of gender or sexuality.
