International Citizen Service
From 2011 to 2018 International Service was part of the consortium delivering the UK government's flagship youth volunteering for development programme, International Citizen Service - ICS.
ICS is a youth volunteering scheme which brings together young people from the UK and across the world to work together to address poverty and become active global citizens.
18-35 year-olds from the UK volunteer alongside young people from each country on 10-12 week placements. Our ICS volunteers contributed to our projects in Bolivia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Brazil, Ghana, Malawi, Palestine and Rwanda, and played a significant role in enabling our partners to become more sustainable in their work, and have a greater impact in their communities.
Our volunteers worked alongside TradeAID to accredit Africa's first Fair Trade town; recruited and trained peer educators to turn the tide on HIV/AIDS; and harnessed the power of sport to tackle the stigma around disability.
We are very proud to have been a part of ICS, and all it achieved in developing young people and communities. Follow the links below to find out what is happening on ICS now, and to learn about International Service's current youth volunteering programme - European Solidarity Corps.
